5 Hours, 57 Minutes and 17 Seconds

I ran the SF Marathon yesterday. It was my first "real" marathon (remember I ran 26.2 miles last month as "practice"). My total time was 5:57:17 I wanted to get in at under 6 hours, so when I realized at about mile 24 that I could probably do it, I kept running then sprinted the last 100 yards across the finish line, pumping my heart rate to over 190 bpm!
Me just after my 100 yard sprint!

Michael and Donald brought ice bags to the finish line so I could ice down my quads and hamstrings...
Icing down aka cooling down

Daniel finished the marathon too, although had problems with foot pain that slowed him down for the last half of the run. It was so painful he thought about dropping, but being the stubborn soul that he is- he iced down his foot and continued on, coming in at 6:44:23. Not bad considering he limped most of the last 13. Here he is at the end after receiving his finishers medal...
He's even smiling!

So, my goals for the year are done. Now I'm bored....

River Rafting on the South Fork of the American River...

Every year we do this weekend trip where we go river rafting on the American River with our friends. This year there were 9 of us on Sat and 11 of us on Sunday. We ride rapids named "Satans' s Cesspool" or "Troublemaker" or "Bumping Rock" and try to stay in the raft through all the splashing.
This year we had 3 "newbies" on our trip- Bill, David and George. They had never been river rafting before so we made sure they had a chance to be "hood ornaments" at the front of the boat. Here's a great pic of David and Bill as our hood ornaments:
The temperatures on the river run about 90 to 100 degrees in July, so its quite refreshing to take a dip in the river (or get tossed out!) and the folks at Riverrunners feed you lots of food, all the time so its quite a great weekend getaway!
